Tours: Join us for easy and engaging one-and-a-half-hour walking tours to increase your knowledge
of Greensboro's history and the local and unusual plants thriving within these 51 acres.
Tours begin at the Green Hill Cemetery Wharton Street gate nearest Fisher/Battleground Avenues.
A $5/person fee benefits cemetery restoration efforts. Call 336-370-0457 for reservations (preferred) or simply arrive on time with your $5! Additional group tours are available at your request! A "virtual tour", a 30-40-minute PowerPoint presentation, is also available for groups that cannot manage a walking tour. We request a minimum $50 group donation for "virtual tour" presentations at your facility, 100% of which goes to Friends of Green Hill Cemetery.
Saturday Work Days: Saturday Work Days, usually the 3rd Saturday of each month (February through November) are a great way to get exercise, meet fellow volunteers, and improve the cemetery! Bring your gloves, your favorite gardening tools (clippers, loppers, shovels, rakes, etc.) and bring water to drink. We remove invasive vines, trim dead wood, mulch, plant with approval of the City Cemetery Superintendent, and generally enhance the grounds, one small area at a time. Even picking up sticks and limbs is a great help to weekday cemetery crews, so even youngsters can help.

Green Hill Cemetery, established in the mid-1800's by the City of Greensboro, is enlivened today by it's visitors, flora, and fauna, providing a park-like setting for remembrance, contemplation, respite, and education about local history, people, and nature.
Friends of Green Hill Cemetery is a non-profit organization formed in 2009
to provide historic tours and raise funds for enhancement of the plantings and structures within Greensboro NC's oldest public cemetery.
